This rustic wooden folk art shorebird is the carver's take on a Greater Yellowlegs. The bird has tiny, inset clear glass eyes with large black pupils and painted black rings around them. Hundreds of tiny carved lines simulate feathers, as does the brown, black and cream paint. The mounting rod is, appropriately, yellow, while the base is a piece of log complete with a knothole, painted brown with a green-painted top. It's hand signed on the bottom of the base: Greater Yellow Legs by Seth 93.
The shorebird is 10 1/2 inches long from beak to tail, pretty much life size. It's 12 inches tall overall, with a base 2 3/4 inches in diameter and it weighs one pound. Retaining the original paint, it's in very good condition and displays well alone or with others.
