French Porcelain Gold Trim Antique Limoges Platters

These beautiful antique Limoges platters are in such exceptional condition, they appear to have never been used. They date from the period 1891-1900, as indicated by the printed green mark on the reverse of each one. The additional mark in gold reads "William Guerin & Co. France Limoges." This mark signifies that the platters were decorated in the Guerin factory as opposed to the white ware pieces that were sold as blanks for amateur china painters. This means that this pattern is found on other pieces by Guerin.

The decorations that edge the pure white porcelain are composed of a delicate pattern of small pink and yellow roses with their green foliage. Above the roses runs a tan ribbon with a geometric design; the outermost rim is gilded. The molded, three dimensional leaves at each end form handles that are heavily encrusted with gold, called "double gold."

The larger of the two matching oval platters measures 13 3/4 inches by 10 inches, stands 1 1/2 inches high and weighs 2 pounds 2 ounces. The smaller one measures 11 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches, stands 1 1/4 inches high at the handles and weighs 1 1/4 pounds. There is one production flaw in the design on the smaller platter where the tan color has smeared a bit outside the ribbon. There are shelf abrasions and some ground-in dirt on the dry foot rings; otherwise, there are no chips, cracks, stains and not one scratch or utensil mark on either platter. The gold gleams like new and the trim in undamaged and unfaded. They're perfect for serving, displaying and decorating.
