Six Leaf Plates by Mangum Pottery

This set of six slab-built red clay leaf plates are from the pottery studio of Rob and Beth Mangum. Rob is a second-generation potter, having learned potting as a teenager with his parents, Robin and bet Mangum, at their Peach Bottom family business in Turkey Knob, West Virginia. Founded in 1989 in Orange, Virginia, Rob and Beth's studio is now based in Weaverville, North Carolina. They moved there in 1998, the same year they made these handsome plates. We've included a recent photo of the Mangums standing in their studio/shop.
The couple has become well-known for their creative pottery, like these plates that brighten your table in colors of burgundy, deep green and chrome yellow. From the small tip of the leaf to the bottom edge measures 9 1/2 inches top to bottom; each leaf is 8 inches across and weighs about 1 pound. Since they are handmade and hand painted, each one is bit different, yet similar. There is no damage...no cracks, chips, hairlines, etc. Three of the plates are dated '98, all are signed Mangum and all are just beautiful.
