Large Vintage French Pewter Porringer by Les Etains de Paris
Details
This large pewter porringer, a bol à oreille (handled bowl), is from the French pewterer Les Etains de Paris. The mark, very worn, depicts a man making pewter encircled by the words "Les Etains de Paris" (The Pewters of Paris), along with the word ETAIN and MADE IN FRANCE. We've included a clear photo of the mark from a reference source. The porringer dates from the 1950's/1960's.
The porringer has been used, so there is some scattered pitting but overall the piece is in very good condition. The round, deep bowl of the porringer is 8 inches across, has a handsome, sturdy 3 inch long scrolled handle and measures 2 inches high. It weighs 1 3/4 pounds and has a mellow, matte patina, which we have left to the buyer's preference to polish or not. It's a handsome piece, suited to French country or Early American settings and perfect for the pewter collector.
