Fabric Art by Madonna Ferguson
This charming folk art painting is a stencil on fabric by artist Madonna Auxier Ferguson, created in 1985. The title is "Favorite Chore," featuring a woman wearing a large red hat, seated under a leafy tree while embroidering a quilt. It's hand signed in black by the artist "Madonna Ferguson" along with the date 1985 and the limited edition number 133/250.
On the back of the painting is a certificate of authenticity, signed by the artist, that states she was born in Virginia in 1941, among other information. We've included a picture of the cover of one of the many books that she's written.
The mat that surrounds the fabric is a soft gray-blue with a grid pattern that reminds you of gingham checks. (Due to lighting on the glass, the color is darker in the first photo; the actual color is closest to that in photos #6 and #7.) The 1/2 inch wide wooden frame has a distressed, craquelure finish in a non-metallic colors of beige, brown and tan. There is a sawtooth hanger on the upper edge of the frame on back, making the painting ready to hang. It measures 13 inches by 17 inches by 1 1/4 inches deep and weighs 2 3/4 pounds. The frame, glass and painting are all in excellent condition, with the colors still strong and unfaded. It's such a pretty painting that cheerfully decorates most any room.
