Wood Firkin - Bucket with Lid - Hard to Find Size

$120.00

This small pine firkin stands only 5 inches tall, a hard to find size. It is all original, with staved construction lapped by a bentwood finger top and bottom. The lid is banded by one finger and fits snugly. The out-of-round bentwood bail handle is secured by two turned wood pins and swings freely. Coopers and barrel makers began to use metal staples to secure the laps in the early 20th century, but we think this one was probably made in the 1940's to 1950's.

Firkins, aka sugar buckets, this small were often used for dry pantry goods like spices or sugar. This one is clean inside and smells only of pine. With the lid on it measures 5 inches across the top tapering down to a bottom measurement of 5 1/2 inches across. It weighs 3/4 of a pound and is in very good condition with no damage and a dry surface. It's a wonderful size to tuck anywhere and can be used as the top firkin in a stack.
