Strasbourg France Vintage Faience Coffee Pot Hand Painted Cockerel

$95.00

A pretty faience coffee pot, this tin-glazed earthenware piece was made in Strasbourg, France and hand painted in the floral decoration known as Old Strasbourg. Gaily striped and dotted designs in shades of burgundy adorn the handle, the spout and the rims. Burgundy flowers with green leaves are scattered over the pot and lid, while the pièce de résistance is below the spout, a beautifully painted scene of a cockerel atop a basket of flowers.

The coffee pot is marked on the bottom, lettered in black "Décor Strasbourg fait main {handmade} HAND MADE IN FRANCE." The piece stands 10 inches tall to the top of the lid's knob. (The white tip of the knob has been replaced sometime in the past with one made of hard rubber and that's reflected in the price.) It measures 7 1/2 inches from spout to handle and weighs 3 pounds. Other than the replacement, it's all original, with no chips, cracks, crazing or stains, just a lovely pot to display and admire.
