Original Painting of Mont Saint Jean Farm at Waterloo Framed Signed

$195.00

The Mont Saint Jean farm is a famous historic location in Waterloo in what is now Belgium. It dates from the Middle Ages, was chartered by Henry I in 1219 and is famous for the 1815 Battle of Waterloo, which ended Napoleon's rule over France. (Napoleon himself referred to it as "The Battle of Mont Saint Jean.") At that time, Waterloo was located in the United Kingdom of the Netherlands.

This vintage impressionist gouache painting is on artist's canvas board. It's the artist's take on a 1910 era color postcard which is titled "Waterloo. La Ferme de Mont St. Jean" {The farm of Mont Saint Jean}. The actual postcard itself is mounted on the back on the dust paper. The painting is hand signed lower left "June Brown 01-06."

The subtle matte colors and lack of extraneous detail have created a relaxing, modern take on the original scene. The 2 inch wide wood frame is, fittingly, stained gray and lightly distressed to mimic barn wood. The framed measurements are 17 1/4 inches by 14 1/4 inches. The artwork weighs 1 1/4 pounds. The dust paper is intact and there is a hanging wire installed. The painting itself is in fine condition and displays beautifully.

⚜️The farm is still in use, currently as a brasserie/distillery/microbrewery.

Its history is fascinating...look up Mont Saint Jean Farm to learn more.
