J. Rinker Vintage Duck Decoy Green-Winged Teal Drake
This handsome green-winged teal decoy was hand carved and hand painted by J. Rinker for Red Farm Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. It's fully signed on the bottom and also bears a label that reads "Whaling Museum New Bedford, Mass." This dates the label, and probably the decoy, before 1963, when the abbreviations for states changed to two letters. The decoy was possibly sold in the museum gift shop.
The solid pine drake decoy has a head that is turned to its left and has applied amber eyes. It is in excellent condition, all-original except for an old, well-done repair to the beak. It measures 11 inches long--nearly full-size--stands 4 1/2 inches tall to the top of its head, 4 1/4 inches wide across the breast and weighs about 1 pound. It displays nicely and is both decorative and collectible.
