This matched set of redware mixing bowls was hand thrown and sponged by Kenneth Cole of Cole Pottery (sometimes called Cole's Pottery). The cheerful colors of rose pink and minty green pop on the white background. The potter's finger marks can be seen and felt on the inside of the bowls. Kenneth George quit potting in October, 2013 and the pottery is closed, so there will be no more.
The larger of the two bowls measures 8 1/4 inches across the top, stands 3 1/2 inches high and has a 4 1/2 inch diameter base. It weighs a bit over 1 1/2 pounds. The dry bottom reveals the red clay and has the round stamped mark of the pottery: Cole Pottery, Sanford, NC with the word "Hi" written in the center. Handwritten in the clay is the following:
Kenneth George
2-10-95
Sanford, N.C.
If you can manage it - you can achieve it. If you can dream it - you can become it.
"North View" {a neighborhood in Sanford}
The smaller of the bowls measures 7 inches across the top, about 3 inches tall and has a base 4 inches in diameter. It weighs a bit over one pound. The dry bottom also has the same round, stamped mark of Cole Pottery and is inscribed as follows:
Kenneth George
2-13-95
Sanford, NC
I was made just for you.
Both bowls are in great condition, appearing as new except for a tiny chip on the bottom edge of the larger bowl (shown in our photo). It shows the red clay, so it blends into the bottom and is not visible from the outside of the bowl. They look great on a shelf or table and are useful as well as decorative.
