Jim started wildfowl carving in the early 1950's, selling his decoys locally. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis decoy has a shapely head with inset, painted eyes and a graceful neck. The painted plumage is realistic and well-done. Attached to the bottom are a lead keel weight, which keeps the decoy from tipping over, and a leather loop, used to tie the anchor line. The underside has the initials \"J.T.B.\" stamped into the wood and is also hand signed \"Jim Burtis RIVA MD. 1994.\" \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis decoy measures 16 inches long, about 2\/3 the size of an average pintail drake, which measures 21 to 30 inches long. It's 7 inches tall to the top of the head, about 5 1\/2 inches wide across the breast and weighs 2 1\/2 pounds.
