French Oil Painting Seacoast Scene

Deseau
US$475.00
Item number: PYH 5551

This large oil painting depicts a fashionable beach resort from La Belle Époque in France circa 1870-1910. Reminiscent of the paintings of Normandy coast towns by Eugène Boudin, this painting has a profusion of details. From the French flags flying and the well-dressed ladies and gentlemen "taking the sea air" to the tents, the hazy clouds and the elaborate buildings, there is so much to please the eye.

Signed "Deseau" at the lower right, this artwork is on unframed stretchered canvas. It measures 24 inches tall and 36 inches wide and weighs about 4 pounds. It's in very good condition with no tears, stains or holes and the colors are still fresh and bright. There are two areas on the lower part of the painting that have lightly raised concentric circles in the canvas...you can see one of them in our first and last photo, located just to the left of the white tent. The light has to be just right to see them and they do not spoil the beauty of this fascinating French oil painting.
