This handsome pair of wood ducks was handcrafted and painted by Garth Tristram (1922-2007) of Orlando, Florida. A member of Ducks Unlimited, he made over 800 decoys at his summer home in Otto, North Carolina, including this hen and drake pair.

Both of these solid wood ducks are depicted in a floating position, with their heads turned slightly to their left side. The heads with glass eyes are nicely carved as are the bodies. The paint on both is unfaded and lightly distressed by the maker. Each is signed on the bottom, burned into the wood:
WOOD DUCK
G. TRISTRAM
OTTO, N.C.

The ducks measure 12 1/2 inches long (a real wood duck is about 19 inches long) and about 5 inches across the breast. Each weighs slightly over 1 pound, which is the weight of an actual wood duck. Both are in excellent condition, with no chips, cracks or other damage and they display beautifully.
