1954 Elderly Couple Wood Carvings from Sweden
This pair of wood carvings, made using a flat plane in Sweden, depict a charming elderly couple, presumably husband and wife. They have such happy faces (we've seen some very grumpy ones). Both are carved and dressed with great details. His green vest has carved buttons. It's over a striped shirt, He wears black pants, with his hands in his pockets, and a jaunty peaked green hat. Her plaid shawl tops a long black skirt and she wears a scarf over her brown hair, with her hands clasped in front of her.
He stands about 5 inches tall and she measures about 4 1/2 inches; weight is 4 ounces for the pair. The bottom of his right foot is stamped in black ink "Made in Sweden" and his left foot is signed in blue ink "e.s. 1954."
Her left foot is signed in pencil "e.s. 1954." Both are in wonderful condition, with a tiny chip at the peak of her scarf (an easy touch-up if you wish) the only wear we could find. A delightful pair, these carvings make a great addition to a figurine collection...or the start of one.
