Water Buffalo Folk Art Cane with Marbles

This unusual hand carved vintage wooden cane combines two decorative motifs. The handle is in the form of the head of a water buffalo, a most uncommon animal for a cane handle and the shaft has a 5 inch long oblong opening that holds 8 glass marbles captive. The handle and the shaft are made of two different woods, both with a reddish-gold color but the water buffalo has a swirling, smooth grain, while the wood of the shaft has a coarse texture and interlocked grain, possibly African or Asian (which goes with the water buffalo). It's finished with a grey rubber tip.

This folk art cane measures 3 feet tall and has a handle 6 1/2 inches long from nose to tail. It weighs just under 1 1/2 pounds and is very sturdy. Although it is vintage and has been used, there are just a few nicks and dents in the handle that show any wear. It's a great find for the cane collector.
