Vintage Large Stoneware Bowl by Don Davis North Carolina Studio Art Pottery Signed

$149.00

During the years 1976-2001, Don Davis was a full-time studio potter in Asheville, North Carolina, where he made this tall stoneware bowl. He is a native Floridian who now has his studio in Flagler Beach, the next town over from us. Don is the author the 1998 book "Wheel Thrown Ceramics," published in 1998. His work is included in the collections of the Rhode Island School of Design, Asheville Art Museum, International Museum of Ceramics in Alfred, NY, The Mint Museum, Charlotte, NC and Shirakawa Public Hall, Japan. He is well-known, too, for his extremely popular ceramics workshops.

A large, beautifully glazed hand thrown stoneware bowl, this piece is a handsome centerpiece for your dining table, coffee table or entryway. The pale blue, speckled background has a wonderful band of rippling green, rust, amber, brown and occasionally deep blue, on both the inside and out. It measures 6 inches tall, 10 inches wide and weighs a hefty 4 pounds 5 ounces. It's signed "Davis" on the bottom, incised in the clay.

This is a superb classic studio piece from an eminent ceramicist that will be a pleasure to own and to decorate your home with for many years to come.
