Vintage DON YEOMANS Haida Gold Embossed Engraving of Raven Finned Killer Whale

$197.00

Don Yeomans (1958-) is one of the most established and respected Northwest Coast artists in Canada. This limited edition engraving of his is titled "Raven Finned Killer Whale," a two-headed figure done in formline design, the Haida art style. It's embossed in raised metallic gold and numbered in pencil on the lower left margin 20/100, with the title in the center and the artist's signature on the lower right. We believe this was made in the late 1980's.

The engraving is topped with a double cut mat; the inner one is gold and the outer one is a creamy beige. The framed size is 15 3/4 inches by 18 inches by 1 1/2 inches deep; the image size measures 12 3/4 inches by 10 1/4 inches. The gallery frame is brushed brass with plexiglass and the piece weighs 4 pounds 5 ounces. Print, plexiglass and frame are all in excellent condition, with some fine scratches along the bottom edge of the frame the only sign of wear. There's a wire installed for hanging. A handsome piece of Northwest Coast Art, this displays beautifully.

>>>Born in Prince Rupert, B.C., of a Haida father and a Métis mother, Don Yeomans has studied the Haida style and created his art since he was very young. He apprenticed with his aunt, the famed Haida carver Frieda Diesing and for two years with the equally famous Phil Janze. Yeomans' art can be found in numerous private and public collections such as the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver, the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Hull, Quebec and numerous others.
