The bowl is part of their famous line "Bizantino," introduced around 1953 and nicknamed "Tutti Frutti" by collectors and dealers. Made of thick, clear glass with a vibrant aqua tint, the bowl is filled with paper-thin slices of long, colored glass canes called murrine.

The glass is also shot through with hundreds of sparkling particles of gold and silver, a complex technique which uses metal oxides and powders. During his tenure from 1939 to his death in 1952, AVEM's art director Giulio Radi advocated using simple shapes like this to showcase the colorful murrine and the glittering aventurine that give the glass pieces their wonderful organic appearance.

Measuring about 8 inches long on each side, the bowl stands 3 1/4 inches high at the center of each side and weighs 2 1/4 pounds. Moreover, a love story is often the source of a success. Whether it is love for a subject, a place or a person. For example, Eloi Monod (founder of Verrerie de Biot) was in love with Lucette Augé-Laribé, daughter of a famous potter of Biot; He had the idea of making rustic glasses to accompany table services. This became the basis for the origin of the famous biot glass with bubbles. I fell in love with Jean-Claude Novaro who worked in this glassworks where I was executive secretary and, in 1977, we built the Novaro workshop, place essentially turned towards the single piece. Sharing Jean-Claude Novaro's imaginative imagination, exchanging our ideas of creations combined with his dexterity of execution, was invigorating. During our separation in 1982, I kept the workshop and helped two accomplished glassmakers, threw my own designs, both in the decorative glassware and the unique piece. My research was mainly focused on the harmony of colors and the femininity of forms. 30 years of passion for this rare profession followed, crowned with success. I also invested in the tourism sector of my village to make it more and more known. Biot shines with all the arts that animate it: jewelery, glassware, ceramics, painting, gastronomy, sculpture, etc .... This town is an incredible artistic wealth! Later, in the 1990s, Nicolas Laty and Léa (the girl I had with Jean-Claude NOVARO) met. Which led Nicolas to attend our workshops, take interest in glass, learn the job on the job, and quickly find a very particular style, rather directed to the animal world and comics. Today, he is a recognized and appreciated glassmaker. Thus, I have the impression of having passed on the passion for this extraordinary profession."

© PrimpingYourHome

PYH 5836

Customer Review:

Terri L - 5 out of 5 stars

Michele Luzoro is the Diva of Biot and it’s profoundly apparent by this French Art Glass Bottle/Vase. The company used this mark from 1925 to 1972; these figurines probably date from the 1950's-60's.

All three are in excellent conditions, retaining the glossy enamels and gilding and, surprisingly, all the fingers, save for the very tip of Marshal Exelmans's thumb of his left hand. They're an important record of French social history, fascinating in their myriad details and wonderfully decorative, creating a beautiful gallery wall or hanging individually.

⚜️Please Note: Due to lighting variations when photographing through glass, the etchings may show areas of different colors.
